Sotoliva Nave, recovered in 2022 as an exhibition hall, resumes its exhibition activity with a new collection of the Port Collection.

Does the Port have an Art collection?

The exhibition is divided into three large blocks, made up of a selection of works from the own production programs Ars, Actividad de la Ciudad Portuaria and Equivalencias, to which are added a series of pieces from the Mini Print Cantabria Collection and the installation Nocturne by Ruth Pettus.

The self-produced programs Actividad de la Ciudad Portuaria (1986-1990), Equivalencias (1991-1994) and Ars (1993-1996) make up the core of the APS collection. They are projects arising from reflection on the port landscape, from the promotion of artistic creativity in supports such as photography and video and even the development of the complete cycle of the creative process, leading to various exhibitions in the Palacete del Embarcadero and in the Nave Sotoliva. The selection made includes works by Juan Uslé, Victoria Civera, Eduardo Gruber, Pilar Cossío, Jesús Avecilla and Xesús Vázquez, as well as Juan Carlos Fernández Izquierdo, Dionisio Romero, Esteban Ruiz, Luis Otí, Jorge Fernández Bolado, Ciuco Gutiérrez and Pedro F Palazuelos.

Nocturne presents the objets d'art by Ruth Pettus, created from discarded shoes and collected by the artist during her trips to Europe between 2001 and 2017: Cyprus, Slovenia, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy and Russia. Curated by Óscar Villegas, Nocturne walks its streets while observing people walking, reflecting on the traces of these individuals on the move: the comings and goings of the Paseo Marítimo de Santander, the canals of Saint Petersburg and the banks of the Seine.

The exhibition is completed with a selection from the Mini Print Cantabria Collection, the result of collaboration between the APS and SM Pro Art, which annually organize the Mini Print contest at the Faro Cabo Mayor Art Center. The Mini Print Cantabria Collection is made up of donations from the participating artists and already has 2,000 small-format graphic works (20 x 20 cm) and has also been exhibited at the Instituto Cervantes in Bordeaux (France) and the Marie Curie University of Lublin (Poland), thanks to its international roaming.

On this occasion, the exhibition is made up of a selection of 42 pieces, including the three Mar Cantábrico awards, for the best work by artists from Cantabria.
